Davis McGee
Just give me a good song done well. This is the calling card of so many of today’s fans looking for great music. Davis McGee delivers just that, writing and performing music that you might not expect from a nineteen year old songwriter. Starting with lyrics that flow with a subtle sophistication, Davis’s laid back vocals and seamless guitar skills suggest no hint of today’s typical teen artist. And despite his youth, Davis is already a full time working musician, not just a website or a You Tube channel. About 20 times each month, you can see Davis perform live in numerous central Florida venues.
In his 3-4 hour live shows, Davis creates a truly fresh vibe by combining more than 20 of his originals with a solid and complementary selection of covers. Davis is also capable of playing an all original set of up to a full hour, either on his own or as an opening act. Almost exclusively, Davis performs singer/songwriter style, with just Davis and his guitar, but local pros occasionally join in when a full band is needed.
Although Davis is regularly booked to perform, songwriting is his foundation and his main focus. In 2011, Davis began recording a select few of his originals. The first track, All I Want to Be, released in March 2011, was produced by industry veteran Gary Carolla. Davis’s second single, Beautiful Like You, was recorded in Nashville and released in November, 2011. The song features Davis on vocals and ukulele, accompanied by four of Nashvilles’s outstanding session musicians. Beautiful Like You is supported by a video on Davis’s You Tube channel. In March 2012, Davis recorded Like I Do at Orlandos’ KDS Studios. Like I Do is a stripped down track that features Davis fingerpicking on an acoustic guitar, backed up with minimal bass and percussion.
Davis’s latest project, Nicer Here, released in April 2013, is by far his most ambitious project to date, with background vocal arrangements, horns, and multiple guitar parts that come together in a mid-tempo tropical feel. Nicer Here has already been recogized in songwriting competitions sponsored by the Dallas Songwriters Association and by the International Songwriting Competition. Davis performed Nicer Here on the TV series Upbeat Dancer, with multiple airings in numerous markets starting in November 2013.
After his June, 2012 high school graduation, Davis took his music full-time by, among many other things, performing over 250 live shows at numerous central Florida venues.
